The Belgian and Luxembourg parliaments have approved the Amsterdam Treaty

which brings justice policies into the main body of EU law and boosts the powers of the European Parliament. In Brussels, the treaty received the support of the four parties in the centre-left coalition as well as the liberal opposition. In Luxembourg, it was passed by an overwhelming majority.
