The vote clears the way for Le Pen to face trial in Germany for denying the impact of the holocaust, after he allegedly said during a speaking engagement in Bavaria that the extermination of 6 million Jews by the Nazis was a “mere detail” of the history of the Second World War. Holocaust denial is illegal in Germany.
