Date: 10/12/1998 insisted this week that east European countries could only join the Union if their nuclear reactors were as safe as plants in the West. “We have made it quite clear to our candidates that there can be no talk of entry into the EU with nuclear power stations whose safety is not certain,” he said, singling out the Slovenian plant in Krsko, the Czech reactor in Dukovany, Slovakia's Mochovce plant and Bulgaria's Kozloduj station as giving grounds for concern. |
