Economic indicators:
Annual inflation rates. EU annual inflation was 1.3% in March 1998. A year earlier it was 1.7%. Inflation was 1.4% in the USA and 2.2% in Japan.

The rate in each EU Member State was as follows:

Germany 0.6%
France 0.8%
Austria 1.0%
Belgium 1.0%
Luxembourg 1.3%
Ireland 1.5%
Portugal 1.5%
Denmark 1.6%
Finland 1.6%
United Kingdom 1.65%
Spain 1.7%
Sweden 1.7%
Italy 2.1%
Netherlands 2.2%
Greece 4.3%

From May 1998 Eurostat also issues a annual inflation rate for the EMU Member States (ie. the eleven EU Member States participating in Stage III of EMU). For March 1998 the annual inflation rate was 1.2%.
