A Commission spokesman rejected media speculation that the 1998 auditors' report, which will be published next Tuesday (16 November), concluded that one third of all expenditure was affected by “errors, financial mismanagement of poor accounting”. But he conceded that up to a third of spending on “internal policies” was affected by errors. The Commission said “significant changes” had been made to administrative procedures since the period covered by the report.
