Press Release: Commission sends reasoned opinion to france for refusal to lift embargo on British beef: Paris has been given five days to respond

The European Commission decided 14.12.99 to send a reasoned opinion according to Art 226 EC Treaty to France for not lifting the embargo on British beef: France has been given a 5-day deadline to bring the violation to an end. If the Commission does not get a satisfactory response in the given timeframe, Commissioner Byrne, responsible for Health and Consumer Protection, will suggest to his colleagues to file the case with the European Court of Justice.
