Millions of cattle across the EU will be tested for mad cow disease under plans discussed by farm ministers earlier this week and endorsed by EU veterinary experts yesterday (22 November)

"By doing these tests and making these findings, we are making considerable progress in the fight against BSE," said Food Safety Commissioner David Byrne. Under the programme, all cattle destined for the food chain over 30 months old will be tested.
