EU Governments and the European Parliament have thrashed out a compromise agreement on opening the Union’s rail freight system to cross-border competition

Under the deal, rail companies will have full access to the entire EU rail network for international freight transport seven years after the new laws take effect. However, the proposal has angered French workers who staged a noisy march through Paris last month in protest.
