Report of a meeting of European Commission Vice President Günter Verheugen with CEOs of EU defence companies and other stakeholders in Brussels on 24 April 2006. Discussions focussed on how to shape an appropriate future European defence industrial policy with the aim of Improving the sector's competitiveness. The participants discussed developing a European Defence Equipment Market (EDEM) taking account of the specificity of defence goods and encouraging industrial restructuring/consolidation guided by market forces in the various defence sectors (aeronautics, space, electronics, land systems, shipyards). Relations with third country partners (in particular transatlantic relations) were also on the agenda. |
