US imports have been hit, May 2006, with a further $9.1m (£4.9m; 7.2m euros) in tariffs from the European Union for breaking World Trade Organisation rules. The European Union imposed adjusted counter-balancing measures in response to the continuation of payments by the US government to US companies under the terms of the Byrd Amendment, which has been ruled by the WTO as incompatible with WTO rules. |
