EU plans air traffic control shake-up

Airlines could save billions of euros under plans to streamline the European Union's air traffic control system,
Jacques Barrot, EU Transport Commissioner, told the Financial Times, March 2008. He said that the EU would table proposals in June 2008 to create larger regional areas of EU airspace superimposed on the 27 national air traffic control systems to smooth flight paths.
