Press Release: Clean urban transport: a new role for cities in European transport policy

Burgos in Spain is hosting the fourth annual meeting of cities taking part in European Commission’s CIVITAS programme, 26 September 2006. The initiative is aimed at developing alternatives to private car use in towns and cities so as to reduce congestion and pollution and promote a more rational use of energy. Over two hundred city-representatives, including twenty transport councillors and mayors, will debate the role that cities can play in achieving sustainable mobility in Europe.
