Press Release: The Commission welcomes adoption of guidelines for teleworking in the telecommunications sector

On 7.2.01, the Social Dialogue Committee in the telecommunications sector officially adopted guidelines for the organisation of telework in the sector. The agreed guidelines are the result of a joint political statement from telecoms operators and trade unions sent as a contribution to the Lisbon Summit in March 2000. The telework guidelines provide a Europe-wide framework for the implementation of telework by the telecommunications operators represented within the Social Dialogue Committee. The guidelines stress that telework constitutes a form of work organisation whose increasing use is a clear sign of a trend towards a more flexible and more mobile workplace.
