Press Release: Commission proposes continuous funding for environmental groups

On 22 June 2001, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a Decision for a new Action Programme promoting European environmental non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The Programme aims at continuous financial support for the environmental movement over the next five years. It contains a number of new features: an expanded geographical scope, opening the door for environmental NGOs from Candidate Countries and the Balkans; an expansion in the length of the programme from four to five years; and a increase in the budget from €10.6 million to €32 million.
