The European Advisory Group on Aerospace, STAR 21, created at the initiative of the aerospace industry held its inaugural meeting on 6 July 2001. This group of senior representatives from the private sector and the European institutions will look at ways to modernise or upgrade Europe's political and regulatory framework wherever necessary to keep pace with rapid economic and technological change in the aerospace industry. A readiness to re-engineer rules where necessary is vital to enable Europe's aerospace companies to make the most of their competitive and strategic potential. The group will address several key issues, ranging from the analysis of the existing political and regulatory framework in Europe to the impact of EU enlargement on the European aerospace industry. The group will present its findings to the Commission, to the Council of Ministers and to the European Parliament in a final report in 2002.
