Press Release: The Commission intends to strengthen cooperation with third countries in the area of higher education

Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Education and Culture, and Chris Patten, European Commissioner for External Relations, presented a memorandum to the European Commission on 18 July 2001 on strengthening Community co-operation with third countries in the area of higher education. The memorandum proposes new measures and launches a debate on the means of developing university exchanges between the Community and third countries, and of promoting the Community as a centre of excellence attracting more students, teachers and researchers from those countries.
