A Green Paper addressing whether the European Union should take action to improve compensation to crime victims was adopted on 28th September 2001 by the European Commission. The paper launches a public consultation on how a minimum standard for compensation to crime victims could be introduced. Special attention is paid to cross-border situations, where persons become the victims of crime in a Member State other than their own. The Commission invites all interested parties to send in their comments on the paper and will then decide whether to present a legislative proposal. |
