Press Release: Enlargement: access to finance still a critical issue for small businesses in candidate countries

The European Commission's Candidate Countries Best Report, issued on 11 January 2002 today. Shows that EU enlargement candidate countries are making steady progress towards meeting EU enterprise policy goals in areas such as reducing the time it takes to register a company, education and training for entrepreneurship and cultivating business clusters. But access to finance is still a problem, especially for small and medium sized enterprises, in almost all countries.
