The European Commission unveiled a CFP reform package on 28 May 2002 which would do away with the annual ritual of setting fishing quotas at too high levels, tackle excess fleet capacity by ending public aid for introducing new fishing vessels and make more EU money available to help fishermen find alternative work and for the restructuring of the sector. |
