The European Commission presented a proposal for a new Motor Insurance Directive on 10 June 2002 which would modernise and improve existing EU rules in this field. The proposal aims to make it easier for people to find car insurance for a temporary stay in another Member State, to get short-term insurance covering cars bought outside the owner's Member State of residence, make it easier for customers to change insurance provider and improve protection for pedestrians and cyclists who are involved in traffic accidents. |
