EU plan to harmonise diesel duty would cost Treasury £6bn a year / EU diesel tax plan would cost UK £6bn a year

The European Commission has drafted proposals for harmonising excise duties on diesel for road hauliers that could cost the United Kingdom up to £6 bn a year. Under the proposals UK excise duties on diesel would have to be cut by more than 50% over the next seven years.
