The Directive relating to the composition, manufacturing specifications, packaging and labelling of cocoa and chocolate products (Directive 2000/36/EC) was adopted in June 2000. Member States must bring into force the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with this Directive before 3 August 2003. It will give the consumer a choice by offering clear, comprehensive labelling in order to distinguish pure cocoa-based chocolate from other types of chocolate. In April 2003, the French Secretary of State for Consumer Affairs, Raymond Dutreil, reminded French consumers of the new rules. |
