A new EU Directive that aims to ensure a better protection from ground level ozone of both the population and plant life entered into force on 9 September 2003. The Directive obliges Member States to inform and alert the population when ozone concentrations in the air are above certain thresholds. It also defines long-term objectives to protect human health and vegetation from ozone to be attained across the EU as far as possible by 2010 |
