Danuta Hübner, the new European Commissioner responsible for Regional Policy, met on 29 and 30 November 2004 the ministers of the EU Member States in charge of territorial cohesion and urban policy in Rotterdam. The Dutch Presidency had prepared these two informal ministerial meetings. Items discussed on the first day were relating to territorial cohesion, especially an agenda for specific actions to be taken during the 2-3 years to come on how to exploit Europe's diversity for sustainable economic growth. Concerning urban policy, which was on the agenda on the second day, Member States and Commission discussed how cities empower Europe and how they contribute to the objectives of the Lisbon strategy aiming to make the EU the world's most dynamic and competitive economy. |
