Vladimír Spidla, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, and Equal Opportunities, hailed a proposal of 8 February 2005, for a directive laying down specific rules for working time, driving time and rest periods for railway staff who operate on the rail network of at least two Member States and cross borders during their working day. The directive enshrined an agreement reached in 2004 by EU-level employers' and workers' representatives. |
