The European Commission on 27 April 2005 adopted a proposal for the European Union's budget 2006. To manage the expenditures for 2006 the Commission proposed an amount of €112.6 billion. This corresponded to 1.02% of the Union's Gross National Income (GNI) and was an increase of 6% on the 2005 budget. The proposed commitments amounted to EUR 121.3 billion, or 1.09% of EU GNI and represented an increase of 4%. According to the proposal more than one third of the budget was to be devoted to stimulating economic growth and creating more and better jobs. |
