The European Commission on 16 June 2005 cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of Great Lakes Chemical Corporation by Crompton Corporation. Although there were a few overlaps in the companies' activities, notably in the area of polymer additives, the Commission concluded that the concentration would not significantly impede effective competition in the EEA or any substantial part of it. This was in particular due to competition from other US and Asian producers. |
