Preview of a visit of Danuta Hübner, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, to Washington on 23 September 2005 for high-level meetings on the EU approach to regional economic development. In meetings with Vice-Presidents Shigeo Katsu, Danny Leipziger and Kathy Sierra at the World Bank, Ms Hübner was planning to explore possibilities for EU-World Bank co-operation in promoting economic convergence, especially in the new EU Member States and candidate countries. Subjects for discussion included the challenge of developing efficient social models, strengthening local and regional administrations and improving the capacity to absorb substantial investments from the EU budget. |
