Eurobarometer public opinion survey No.63, published in July 2005, showed that more than half of European Union citizens were opposed to Turkish entry to the European Union, and barely one-third supported it. At a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers on 18 July 2005, French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said 'it would be suicidal to Europe to enlarge without taking account of people's concerns'. |
