Jacques Barrot, Vice President of the European Commission in charge of Transport, on 25 October 2005 appointed Karel Van Miert, former European Commissioner, to take up the role of mediator for Galileo, the European Satellite Navigation System. Mr Van Miert’s mission was to be that of mediator between Member States and European industry in order to facilitate decisions on the Galileo programme. |
