Forest fires set to increase, EU ministers told

European Union Agriculture and Environment Ministers met for an informal meeting in London on 11 September 2005 to discuss climate change. They were warned that the effect of a combination of land abandonment and climate change would lead to more catastrophic forest fires like those that engulfed large parts of Portugal and Spain during the summer of 2005.
