Reaching a balance

Editorial considers the vote in the European Parliament, Strasbourg, 17 November 2005, on the first reading of the REACH proposals and argues that the proposed new chemicals legislation still needs improvement. The legislation has to show it can be used to eliminate dangerous chemicals without endangering the competitiveness of one of Europe's top-performing sectors.
