Book abstract:

Produced by PROMEURO (The Association of Citizens for the Promotion of the European Currency), whose purpose is to help people make up their own minds about the euro, 'The euro for Europe' tries to respond to a number of questions. These include: Why an economic and monetary union? What is money? What are the main stages of its progression? What will be its effect on employment, on national sovereignty, on cultural identity?; Are Europeans ready for the euro? Will they accept the risks as well as the advantages?
This attractive book contains 80 questions and answers, 17 graphics and tables, a chronology of the main stages leading to the euro, relevant abstracts from the Union Treaty, a glossary and an index of key words. It has been prepared by experts from organisations including the European Commission, the European Investment Bank and the London School of Economics along with secondary school teachers in language accessible to all. It is part of a kit, designed to help teachers explain the implications of the European currency to pupils. The complete kit contains a video and a selection of graphics (available at the time of issue in French only).
Although primarily aimed at pupils from secondary schools, it can also used by commercial organisations to heighten euro awareness among staff and clients and members of the public for a better understanding of the current situation.
