Press Release: Intergovernmental Conference: Commission presents an additional contribution on a statute for European political parties

On 12.7.00 the Commission approved an additional contribution concerning European political parties. While the Treaty acknowledges the role of political parties in forming a European awareness and expressing the political will of the citizens of the Union, there is a good case for providing a specific legal basis to define their statute, in particular the conditions governing their recognition and the rules regarding their funding.
