Turkey has moved a step closer to being accepted as a member of the European Union, after overcoming problems posed by its historically tense relationship with Greece. European foreign ministers meeting in Brussels on 4 December 2000 ahead of Thursday's summit in France reportedly agreed on a document setting out terms on which Turkey could begin negotiating membership. |
