The European Parliament on 15 December 2005 voted in favour of the new framework for road infrastructure charging proposed by the European Commission in July 2003. As a result, it was expected to be possible to adopt the new 'Eurovignette' Directive on second reading in the coming few weeks. This legislation was to encourage the Member States to introduce and develop tolls and charges which would make it possible to improve the management of commercial freight traffic, reduce pollution and generate funds for investment in new transport infrastructure. |
