Press Release: European Ports Policy: European Commission initiates global reflection and consultation process

Preview of the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) Conference in Stockholm entitled 'A European Policy for Seaports – Suggestions on the way forward' on 1 and 2 June 2006. The European Commission, one of the participants at the event, wanted a global reflection and a wide consultation process in order to redefine the foundations of the future European ports policy. Such a policy should encompass the completion of the internal market in the sector, encourage transparent and non-discriminatory investment practices and enhance the role of ports in the transport chain.
