Press Release: Making Europe their own: the new “Europe for Citizens” programme about to be launched

The new "Europe for Citizens" programme will be launched on 10 May 2007 in a joint event taking place in Brussels (Belgium) and in Rhodes (Greece). Over 500 participants, stakeholders and interested parties from all over Europe are taking part. They will be debating how to raise the level of civic participation of Europeans and its importance for European integration. In Brussels, the emphasis will be on providing information to representatives of the media and civil society organisations, as well as think tanks and local or regional authorities. In Rhodes, the event concentrates on launching the new programme and is combined with a conference on the Town Twinning action, part of the Europe for Citizens programme.
