An important Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Athens on 8 December 2003 which aims to integrate energy markets in South East Europe and its connection with the European Union.
The Regional Electricity Market in South East Europe (REM-SEE) is an initiative promoted and supported by the EU that seeks to integrate the Western Balkans' electricity market with the wider European Union's internal electricity market and reconstruct systems following war damage.
