From 1 May 2003 companies selling tourist accommodation throughout Europe can apply for the European Union Eco-label to show just how highly they score on environmental performance. Consumers have long relied on 'the Flower' to help them find greener products, but they will now have the opportunity to use the Flower to find an environmentally friendly hotel, bed and breakfast, youth hostel or even mountain hut. This is the first time the European Commission has adopted ecological criteria for the services sector. |
