Date: 20/05/04 THE 2004 Charlemagne prize for promoting European integration is to be presented to Pat Cox, pictured, tomorrow (20 May). In a declaration due to be made by the committee behind the award, the outgoing European Parliament president is eulogized for possessing "three key qualities: transparency, a popular touch and a pragmatic approach to politics". The Charlemagne prize ceremony takes place in the German city of Aachen, home to the eighth century imperial king after which it is named. Valéry Giscard d'Estaing was last year's winner.
