Date: 22/10/1998 MEPs have been told to shower more often. However, the edict is not a reflection of any concern about standards of personal hygiene in the European Parliament. Rather it is because problems have already emerged with the showers installed in the new Parliament building at a cost of several thousand ecu each. Engineers have warned that if they are not used regularly, the fixtures scale up and leak. Parliament President José María Gil-Robles has asked MEPs to try to use the showers a few times a month, at least, to prevent any problems. |
