Press Release: Commission presents its proposal to adapt the financial framework for enlargement

The European Commission agreed its proposal for adapting the financial perspective for 2004-2006 to meet the demands of enlargement on 11 February 2002. The proposal sets in motion the process of incorporating the 10 new Member States into the EU budget within the limits of the financial perspective for the 6 candidate countries agreed in Berlin in 1999. The Council and Parliament will have to set the framework for the next three budgets on the basis of this proposal.
