Health chief wants to clear Europe’s air

David Byrne, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, is pushing for EU-wide curbs on smoking in public places. Mr Byrne would also like Anna Diamantopoulou, European Commissioner for Employment, to put forward a smoking ban as part of her mandate to ensure health and safety in places of work.
