The CFI ruled in July that the Commission was justified in punishing the carmaker, but reduced the fine from 102 million euro to 90 million euro after concluding that the infringement occurred only over a three-year period. The Commission levied the fine after concluding that VW had barred its Italian distributor from selling cars to consumers in Germany and Austria.
