On 7.2.01, the European Commission called the Stockholm European Council on 23-24 March 2001 in order to put in place the conditions that will secure jobs and prosperity for the next generation. In a Report to Heads of State and Government, the Commission warned that Europe's current economic strength was not a reason to be complacent, but should be used as a spur to economic and social reform. The Report set the agenda for the Stockholm European Council, proposed ten priority areas for action and set targets for the next 12 months. |
