Date: 03/07/1997 No wonder there is some post-summit confusion about what that new Amsterdam Treaty was supposed to contain. Here is one extract from the final version, taken from Article 1 on an area of freedom, security and justice: “The application of this title shall be subject to the provisions of Protocol Y on the position of the United Kingdom and Ireland and to Protocol Z on the position of Denmark, without prejudice to Protocol X on the application of certain aspects of Article 7a to the United Kingdom and Ireland.” That appears to just about cover it - possibly. |
