Acting Trade Commissioner Sir Leon Brittan has called on EU governments

to support an ambitious list of objectives for trade liberalisation for the next round of global talks, which is due to start later this year. Brittan called for the round to be as comprehensive as possible, including not only predictable areas for liberalisation such as agriculture and industrial tariffs but also rules on competition and investment, which the US opposes. He also said there should be a link between liberalisation and environmental and labour standards.
