Press Release: Flights from the outermost regions: Changes to French social aid scheme for passengers from Réunion cleared by the Commission

The European Commission on 7 June 2006 approved changes to a social State aid scheme, without altering its duration, for certain categories of passengers flying from Réunion to mainland France. The aim of the changes was to respond more effectively to the permanent disadvantage faced by the inhabitants of the island in that they had to contend with far higher transport costs than the inhabitants of mainland France.
