Date: 18/09/1997 ...(approximately 18 million unemployed), according to new figures from Eurostat, the EU's statistical office. The rate fell to 10.7&percent; in June, and July saw a further small drop to 10.6&percent;. Before that, the rate had remained at 10.8&percent; since October 1996. Eurostat said the overall figure had gone down because of falls in the number of people out of work in the UK, Scandinavia, Portugal and Spain. |
